How to Strengthen the Urban Underground "Lifeline"? Over 200 Experts Gathered in Changsha for Seminar
Underground pipelines are known as the "lifeline" of a city. Recently, a technical exchange conference titled Application and Innovation of Pipe Jacking Technology, hosted by Hunan Provincial Architectural Design Institute, was held in Changsha. More than 200 pipeline experts gathered to discuss and share insights.
It is understood that pipe jacking technology is a trenchless pipeline installation method widely used in municipal construction. Compared with traditional open-cut methods, it offers significant advantages: minimal impact on the surrounding environment, smaller construction sites, reduced noise, and the ability to work at greater depths underground.
Hunan Topzone Pipe Industry, the first company in Hunan to produce large-diameter environmentally friendly pipes of this kind, was invited to participate in the conference. Gong Yong, the company’s Chief Engineer, delivered a report titled Processing Technology and Performance of Large-Diameter Plastic-Coated Composite Steel Pipes for Water Supply and Drainage. He elaborated on the manufacturing processes and properties of single-layer EP and 3PE plastic-coated composite steel pipes, as well as their extensive application and advantages in major national key projects. “This provides a reliable technical option and support for significantly reducing the leakage rate of public pipeline networks,” he said.
According to reports, in the field of municipal water supply and drainage engineering in China, there was previously a lack of technical standards specifically addressing the use of steel pipes as the primary material for pipe jacking construction. In 2020, leveraging its industry experience, Hunan Topzone Pipe Industry took the lead in collaborating with Hunan Provincial Architectural Design Institute to establish a drafting team for the Technical Standard for Steel Pipe Jacking, initiating the development of relevant standards.
After multiple field investigations and thematic studies, and through the joint efforts of all participating units, the Technical Standard for Steel Pipe Jacking passed review in December 2021 and was officially implemented in Hunan Province starting June 1, 2022.
This academic and technical exchange conference aimed to enhance learning and interaction among construction, design, and engineering units, support corporate scientific innovation and technological advancement, and promote the high-quality development of the niche market for plastic-coated composite steel pipes.
